Music Boosters
Diegueño Middle School is a public school in Encinitas, California offering 7th and 8th grades.
It is part of the San Dieguito Union High School District.

OUR SCHOOL
The Diegueño Music Boosters are a community of families supporting student musicians at Diegueño Middle School through volunteer efforts and fundraising. All Diegueño music parents and guardians are part of the Boosters.
Many essential elements of the music program are not funded by the school district, so the Boosters have focused on the following areas:
* Providing hospitality and promoting community to Diegueño students and families at music activities and events
* Raising funds to pay music coaches for weekly in-class sessions, to repair instruments for Diegueño Middle School, to purchase sheet music, and help fund field trips for the Diegueño music programs

* Helping the Music Director organize performance events throughout the year
* Assisting the Music Director with communications to music families

PLEASE help us reach our goals to provide these programs by donating. Our annual ask is $250 per student and any donation amount is appreciated.

The Diegueño Music Boosters are a committee of the Diegueño Middle School PTSA, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Your contributions are used directly for Diegueño Middle School students and programs.

Some of our efforts have included organizing a winter raffle and concert and organizing field trips with chaperones to perform at local elementary schools. We have coordinated band uniform shirts for the students, and helped when the band marches down the coast highway at the annual Encinitas Holiday Parade! We also provide snacks and hospitality for the music students and families throughout the school year.
The Boosters raise funds through selling concessions at various events including at the Coastal Community Concert Band concerts throughout the year in Carlsbad. We organize restaurant nights, electronics recycling events, and a See's Candy sale during the holidays. We are seeking volunteers to run these fundraisers.
The Music Boosters also have written grant applications to foundations that support arts education, and visit local businesses to request donations for our program. Our community has been very generous!
Band families, please see our welcome letter for information on ways to help. We meet in the Diegueño Middle School conference room. All band families are invited to attend. PLEASE JOIN US!! MUSIC BOOSTER NEWS - MARCH 2017
We are writing to fill you in on some of the activities the Music Boosters and our wonderful team of parent volunteers have been doing behind the scenes this year. Thank you to families for your generous financial donations, and for donating your time, working so hard to benefit the music program!
First of all, the biggest expense we fundraise for each year is the in-class music coaching (it will cost approximately $9,000 this school year). Our music coaches visit our students once each week, in class each Thursday morning from 9-11:30 am. They spend 1 hour, 15 minutes coaching 20 students in beginner band, and 1 hour coaching 40 students in concert band. We currently have three outstanding coaches: Mickey Janelli, our woodwinds coach, Steve Ebner, our brass coach, and Cat Gold, our percussion coach. We are very lucky to have them!!
Some other expenses we have funded include:
purchased 18 metal music stands and a rolling storage cart ($875)
purchased five instruments ($2,775)
made over $900 in instrument repairs
rented a truck to transport equipment during the recent concert band elementary school tour
provided refreshments during summer “band camp” day, after the Encinitas Holiday Parade, and for a beginning band "coffee concert"
Fundraising activities we have been doing include:
organized the See’s candy sales and distribution (we raised $1,300, way to go students!!)
three restaurant nights
worked concessions at three Coastal Communities Concert Band concerts
organized winter concert raffle
E-cycling event at Diegueño
